The Chinese infant milk debacle of 2008 (in which large amounts of formula were contaminated with melamine) is well known to parents and product recall insurers alike. In dealing with the problem, the Chinese government launched criminal probes against the manufacturer and various other individuals. The Chinese also went after Zhao Lianhai, a parent whose child was stricken with melamine related kidney problems, and who then set up a website to help other affected parents. For his good work, Lianhai has just been convicted of inciting public disorder and has been given a two year prison term -- It just goes to show that no good deed goes unpunished.
