Professional Experience
Brendan Gilmartin assists in the representation of clients in commercial, property and personal injury disputes and litigation. His work involves all phases of dispute resolution and litigation, including conducting legal research; drafting pleadings and pretrial motions; managing investigations and discovery; and attending depositions, mediations, hearings and other judicial proceedings. Since joining WCM, Brendan has obtained numerous favorable results for clients, including winning a pre-answer motion to dismiss in a medical malpractice case and winning summary judgment in a coverage dispute.
While in law school, Brendan interned at a Plaintiff-side civil rights firm and was part of a trial team in NDNY winning the client a six-figure verdict. Brendan also interned in the EEOC’s mediation unit where he gained valuable insight into ADR processes. Brendan competed in the International Chamber of Commerce’s international commercial mediation competition in Paris, where his team placed in the top 16 out of over 80 international law schools.
Brendan rejoined WCM after a year of clerking in New York County Supreme Court for the Hon. Mary V. Rosado, where he drafted hundreds of decisions and orders on a wide array of issues, many of which were published in the New York Law Journal’s decisions of interest column. He oversaw discovery conferences and frequently resolved discovery disputes between parties. He also managed numerous trials, drafted decisions on motions in limine, tailored pattern jury instructions, and drafted verdict sheets.
