The bill would significantly expand the types of damages recoverable in wrongful death cases to include, " mental anquish, emotional pain and suffering, loss of society and loss of companionship". The bill had recently cleared both houses and was expected to be signed by Corzine. However, the Governor now has expressed concerns and may not sign it. If the bill is not signed by Tuesday , January 15 , it will die. The bill was 6 years in the making and supported by plaintiff's attorneys , but opposed by businesses, insurance companies and the medical community.
